Lake Geneva Destination Weddings

It took me until I moved away from Lake Geneva to realize what a very special place it is.  And that this lake of ours is really something quite extraordinary. Lake Geneva is a naturally carved out glacier lake resulting from a glacial period about 15,000 years ago. It was first settled by Chief Big Foot and the Potawatomi tribes but was taken over in time by wealthy whites from Chicago.  The history of Lake Geneva is extensive and one could easily get lost in the fascinating stories of how Lake Geneva came to be what it is today. Lake Geneva was and still is the ideal vacation area and remarkably, has maintained its small town feel thanks to the dedicated residents that call Lake Geneva home.

So for many reasons, Lake Geneva has become a dream destination wedding location and Sunshine Daydream Events knows it well. There are several venue options in the area that make use of the lake and its surrounding beauty.  Let's take a look at a few!

Our all time favorite- Northwind Perennial Farm

Northwind Perennial Farms offers a dozen or more ceremony and reception locations on their property. Every time you turn the corner, there is another gorgeous nook just waiting for you to say "I Do" there.  This place is like absolutely magical- in summer and in winter. Trust us. You want to get married here. We'll help you do it.

Another goodie- Horticultural Hall

Built in 1911, this is  a beautiful local building with a garden that is perfect for a small to medium sized wedding.  You can set up this outdoor space a variety of ways, and any way you put it- it will be a little slice of heaven on your wedding day.

One more to think about for now (and more to come soon)...

Another favorite- The Baker House

Originally a summer residence for Mrs. Emily Baker back in 1885, this 17,000 square foot Queen Anne mansion has everything you would want for  a proper wedding. The garden is overflowing with flowers and overlooks the lake just 30 yards away for a stunning sunset view. This also makes a fabulous location for bridal and baby showers and we'd be happy to plan that for you as well!

As Wedding Season Continues...

You may be wondering, what the heck am I supposed to wear to all these amazing outdoor weddings in Wisconsin or wherever you may be. And we don't blame you! Keeping in mind the heat, sweat marks, grass, bugs, etc. makes dressing for a summer wedding in the midwest a wee bit tricky!  Here are some guidelines to help you pull together just the right outfit.

I must warn you. There is quite a bit of coral. Like almost every other one. But what can I say? I'm a little bit obsessed with it right now!

Keep it light and flowy: You won't have any sweaty pit marks in this baby from www.polyvore.com! I would wear this to a wedding in San Diego. It would have been perfect for my friend Kari's wedding- overlooking the beach at a beautiful venue, but not actually in the sand.

The color: This little blue lace number (I apologize, I cannot find where it is from) will definitely not show any sweat and the shape and texture make it sexy and perfect to bust a move on the dance floor!

Make it a maxi: I'm dying for this dress. Love the color combos and the maxi scoop neck is an essential this summer. No muss, no fuss, but still completely stylish.  You'll definitely stay cool in  this one which is perfect for a beach wedding in the sand! You can find it at www.blacklabelboutique.com

Light and simple + sequined belt/sash= fancy: I would wear this one to a fancier wedding perhaps at a nice resort. The light colors and the free flowing fabric are perfect for the heat.

Go with chiffon: This is a silky chiffon blend from www.jcrew.com's bridemaid collection. One shoulder is comfort at its best and the flowy skirt will keep you comfortable on the dance floor all night long. It also comes in a variety of fun colors.

Go with the flow: This Rainer Cascade cocktail dress from www.bcbg.com is everything you would want for a summer wedding in the midwest. The sleeveless sheath shape with the ruffle detail and the  trendy short to long bottom makes this dress just the right blend of simple and just fancy enough. Dress it up or down and wear it anywhere!

Ladylike cap sleeves: www.oasis-stores.com offers this pretty and preppy dress perfect for the big country club wedding of the summer. The cap sleeves allow for your armpits to breath and the skirt is beautiful pleated and not restricting at all. The thin belt makes the perfect ladylike addition for a prim and proper affair.

Wear a color: Especially a color like this one and get crazy and wear some brightly colored shoes too! www.bcbg.com really knew what they were doing with this Khloe lace cocktail dress.  Again, the shape and the sleeve of the dress allow for maximum comfort. Nothing tight on a hot summer night!

Try not to steal the bride's thunder: But honestly, hard not to in this one. www.lyst.com shows us you can be sexy and ladylike as well as comfortable if you slip this one on. It's definitely on the fancier side but still light and flowy so I would wear this to a resort or another nice venue with heals but I think if you paired it with some beautiful flats you could wear this to a more beachy, laid back wedding.  Heck, I'd wear it around the house if I could.

Alright! I hope that helped all you beautiful ladies looking for the best of the best for this summer's weddings!  Let me know your fave!

Cheers!
